I HATE battery operated pencil sharpeners. They never seem to last very long before the guts break. When my last battery operated sharpener went to the big office in the sky, I decided to go back to a manual solution. I read lots of reviews and decided to try this model. In short, I love it. It sharpens my pencils to a nice point, mounted easily to my wooden bookshelf, and makes me feel better when my 3 year old uses it. I know that because of the way the pencil size guide works, she can’t get her fingers in there and accidentally hurt herself (something I always worried about with the automatic ones). Best of all, it brings back that pleasant sensation I remember from school of sharpening a pencil. Standing in line, sharpening, the smell of the wooden shavings, all that good stuff. I don’t expect this thing to wear out anytime in the next 20 years or so but if it does, I will be purchasing the same one again.
